Firm shareholder, James B. Lonergan, focuses on areas of Real Estate, Commercial Transactions and Banking and Credit Union Representation. Representing both lenders and borrowers, Mr. Lonergan has been responsible for documenting all aspects of asset based lending and real estate finance, acquisitions, workouts, foreclosures and leasing. Mr. Lonergan has achieved Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating for legal ability and ethical standards. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the Marshall Wythe School of Law, College of William & Mary and holds a Bachelor of Arts, awarded cum laude, from Boston College. Lonergan is a member of the Virginia State Bar and Virginia Beach Bar Association and is a former member and secretary of the Second District Ethics Committee of Virginia State Bar. Further he is a former member of the Board of Governors of Real Property Section of Virginia State Bar and served as Chairman of Board of Governors of Real Property Section of Virginia State Bar. He has authored numerous papers and lectured on numerous topics including: “Residential Real Estate Contracts”, Virginia Continuing Legal Education; “Handling the Issues in a Problem Real Estate Investment”, Virginia Continuing Legal Education; “Preparation of the Agreement for Acquisition of Income Producing Real Estate”, Virginia Continuing Legal Education; “Commercial Loan Documentation”, Virginia Continuing Legal Education. He served as President and CEO of Pender & Coward from 1995 to 2000.
