The Community-
Civic
Involvement
Pender & Coward recognizes the importance of giving back to the community that has helped us to prosper throughout the year. While many of our Attorneys and Staff Members serve on various Civic and Community Service Boards throughout the year donating their time and talents to these organizations, there are other activities that go on behind the scenes that you may not be aware of.
Community Challenge
Sponsored by the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators, this is an annual event for Hampton Roads Law Firms. The Staff and Attorneys collected enough "gently used" clothing and other household items to fill two offices at Greenwich Centre for the residents of "The Dwelling Place".
Adopt-A-Child for Christmas
Our firm approached the Directors of St. Mary's Infant Home in Norfolk, with the idea of providing holiday gifts for these special children. Each Attorney and Staff member drew a name from the list provided by St. Mary's, and shopped for the items on their child's "wish list". On Wednesday, December 20th, Attorneys and Staff members loaded two vans and delivered the presents to the 88 children of St. Mary's. To quote our CEO, Richard Matthews;
"The gifts that we gave will be all that most of them will have to open on Christmas Day. For me, it was a very humbling experience. As they say in Whoville, "The Grinch's heart grew 3 sizes that day". To see these children makes you realize how blessed we are here, and that the problems we all face in the rigors of our jobs are really minor irritants".
As we come to the close of 2000, please accept our sincere appreciation for allowing the Attorneys and Staff of Pender & Coward to be of service to you and your organization throughout the year.
