Pender & Coward's tradition of providing quality legal service dates back to 1889 when W.D. Pender began his legal practice in Norfolk. From its beginning, the firm has maintained an excellent reputation in the business and professional community in Southeastern Virginia. Indicative of the high regard in which Pender & Coward is held is the fact that, within the past ten years, two members of the firm have become Circuit Court Judges in the City of Virginia Beach and two have been invested as United States District Court Judges for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Pender & Coward offers its clients expertise in all major areas of practice. Attorneys in the Litigation Section of the firm specialize in trial and appellate work. Pender & Coward has long represented national and regional corporations, national insurance carriers, municipalities, financial institutions, and other business entities as well as individuals.
The Commercial Section of the firm handles all aspects of corporate and commercial transactions and includes attorneys with advanced degrees in tax law. This section also includes attorneys who emphasize commercial, real estate, zoning and environmental law. The firm's Estate Planning and Probate section provides complex services relating to wills, trusts, pension and retirement plans, probate and estate administration. Our Family Law section provides services relating to divorce, property settlement, custody, adoption and complex equitable distribution issues. The firm's retail collection division, Dominion Law Associates, is a nationally recognized leader in the collection industry and is the largest retail collection practice in Virginia.
