Legal Assistant/Receptionist

Job Description

The Suffolk office of Pender & Coward seeks a qualified Legal Assistant to perform a variety of duties in support of the Litigation section. This is a Full Time position, 40 hours per week. Candidates must possess prior office experience, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Manage multi-line telephone systems; route calls  and messages accordingly
  • Prepares routine correspondence, pleadings, discovery documents, reports, and letters,
  • Maintains attorneys’ calendars; schedules and follows up on all appointments (i.e., courts, clients, case work, and potential clients).
  • Open, organize, maintain, and close paper and electronic client files.
  • Scan, profile and file routine correspondence
  • Input timekeeper data.
  • Receive and record payments from clients
  • Performs a variety of other administrative tasks as assigned.


  • Minimum of one year relevant work experience in a professional office setting or a combination of relevant work and educational experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management software.
  • Operational knowledge of standard office equipment including copier, scanner, and telephone equipment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proven meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of client service and response.
  • Expert level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, attorneys, co-workers, and other outside professionals.

Starting compensation commensurate with experience.
